5 RWC Arena Stone Memorial Scholarship
Amount varies, not less than $250
Open to women residing in Gloucester County who are enrolled full or part time in an RCC program. Preference given to single mothers. Scholarship funds applicable to direct educational costs: tuition, fees, books, uniforms, supplies, and child care.

Abingdon Woman’s Club Scholarship Endowment
$500 maximum
Open to residents of Gloucester County with a minimum GPA of 2.0 who will attend RCC either full or part time. Scholarship funds applicable to tuition, fees, books and uniforms.

Bank of Essex Banking Career Scholarship
$1,250/year for two years
Open to students enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester in the Banking Career Studies Certificate program, with preference given to applicants who demonstrate need. Recipients must reside in one of the following counties: Essex, King and Queen, King William, Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, or Westmoreland. If no applicant meets the program criteria specified above, eligible recipients enrolled in the Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Management may be considered. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books.

Anton and Augusta Birkel Foundation Scholarship Endowment for Nursing

Open to first- or second-year students meeting admission requirements for RN or LPN Nursing Program. Must maintain minimum GPA of 3.0 at RCC and must reside in one of the following counties: Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, or Westmoreland. Preference is given to those who earned a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.5 and who demonstrate financial need, leadership, and good citizenship. Funds may be used to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and testing fees.

R. Tyler Bland Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a second-year RCC student who has completed 30 credits in a degree program and shows potential leadership abilities. Consideration given to need. Faculty member recommendation required. Preference given to residents of these counties: Essex, King and Queen, King William, and Middlesex. Scholarship funds applicable to tuition, fees, books, and educational supplies.

Norman A. Bowen Memorial Scholarship and Fund for Engineering Excellence
$1,500 maximum
Open to a senior graduating from high school who will enroll full-time (at least 12 credit hours) in a certificate or degree program for the study of engineering, welding, machine technology, or nursing. The applicant must have a high school grade-point average of 2.5 or greater, must demonstrate leadership and good citizenship qualities, and must show financial need. Preference given to Rappahannock High School graduating seniors. Scholarship funds are applicable to tuition, fees, and books.

Martin L. and Barbara J. Bowling Scholarship Fund

Open to individuals employed in or residing in these counties: Lancaster and Northumberland. Recipients must be full-time students enrolled in an associate degree program. Award based on need, academic potential, and community service. Preference given to applicants who have successfully completed the Alternate School Program in Lancaster, or equivalent in Northumberland. Scholarship funds applicable to tuition, fees, and books.

Business and Professional Women’s Club of the Northern Neck and Essex County Scholarship

Callao Women of the Moose Nursing Scholarship

Open to a full-time student enrolled in RCC’s nursing program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above. Preference will be given to a resident of one of the following counties: Essex, Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, or Westmoreland, who has demonstrated leadership and good citizenship qualities.

Arlene Cannon Memorial Scholarship

Open to hearing-impaired or physically-challenged students residing in Mathews or Gloucester counties who are enrolled in the Business Management and Administration curriculum at the Glenns Campus. Students must show need, demonstrate good citizenship, and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Full-time first-year student demonstrating leadership and community involvement preferred.

Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship
$1,000 minimum
This is a merit-based scholarship for full-time students attending college for the first time and seeking an associate degree, who have demonstrated academic excellence during high school as well as a commitment to developing leadership skills. The chosen scholars must be committed to graduating from a Virginia community college, and must be willing to promote community college education and the Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship Program. Awardees will demonstrate a willingness to mentor future scholars. Scholarship funds applicable to tuition, fees, and books.

Dorothy Cosby Cooke Scholarship Endowment

Open to residents of RCC’s service region, with preference given to Gloucester County, who demonstrate evidence of need and possess a 2.0 GPA (high school graduate, GED recipient, or continuing college student). Scholarship funds applicable to tuition, fees, books, and educational supplies.

Marjorie Courtney Danner and Alan F. Courtney Scholarship

Open to first-time students enrolled with a minimum of six semester hours. Consideration is given to students demonstrating need, leadership ability, or community involvement as verified by a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, minister or other qualified person. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.5. Preference is given to students residing in these counties: Essex and King and Queen. Scholarship funds are applicable to tuition and books.

Fred D. Durham Scholarship and Fund for Engineering Excellence

The primary consideration for awarding this scholarship is academic achievement; secondary consideration may be given to financial need, family circumstances, and community service. Special consideration will be given to students intending to seek further education in engineering or, secondarily, teaching. Preference is given to students from these counties: Essex and Richmond. The Thomas Peterson and Alvin Jeanette Roane Fary Memorial Scholarship

Applicants must have resided in one of the counties in the RCC service region for not less than two years (24 months) immediately preceding the beginning of the academic year. Need is a consideration. Applicants must possess and maintain a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 in high school or 2.5 at RCC, and must be full-time students (at least 12 credit hours). A letter of recommendation that speaks to leadership, good citizenship, and community involvement is required.

Martha Garner Excellence in Nursing Scholarship Fund

Awards will support students enrolled in Nurse Aide, LPN, and RN programs, in that order. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5, and must demonstrate need, leadership, good citizenship, and community involvement as verified by a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, minister, or other qualified person. Awards may be carried over until completion of academic program at RCC if minimum requirements are met. Funds may be used for all program-related expenses, and may include living expenses if funds are sufficient.

Vanda K. Giedrys Memorial Scholarship

$1,000 minimum

Open to a mature woman (thirty years of age or older) who has completed at least one semester at RCC and enrolled in a nursing or education program of study. Financial need, cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above, and one recommendation from an RCC faculty member confirming that the conditions of the award are met are also required. Preference will be given to full-time students (9 or more credit hours per semester) and/or those resuming a college education after interruption for family or financial reasons. Funds may be used to cover educational and living expenses during the academic term of the award.

Katherine B. and Mills E. Godwin Scholarship

Open to a full-time (at least 12 credit hours/semester) student and graduate of Middlesex County High School who has successfully completed a minimum of 12 credits of study at RCC with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. Students must be interested in pursuing a public service career. Preference shall be given to a previous recipient and students who demonstrate good citizenship and community involvement. Scholarship funds applicable to tuition, books, and fees. This scholarship honors the life and accomplishments of Governor Mills E. Godwin, Jr., under whose administration the Virginia Community College System was created.

The Barbara Gornowich Rappahannock Alliance of Foreign Language Teachers-Hispanic Culture Club Scholarship

Open to a full-time (at least 12 credit hours) second-year student who has completed 30 credits in an Associate of Arts & Science degree program. Applicants must have completed foreign language requirements. Applicants must reside within the RCC service region, and must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Secondary consideration given to need.

Open to graduates of local high schools, with preference given to graduates of Middle Peninsula (Middlesex or King and Queen County) schools who are registered in a degree or certificate program, full or part time. The Miriam W. Haynie Scholarship Endowment

Open to a resident of Northumberland County with preference given to a first-time student interested in art or creative writing.

The Leslie and Loretta Hinton Educational Fund
Amount varies
Open to students who reside in Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, or Westmoreland counties; demonstrate need; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 at RCC; and maintained a minimum high-school GPA of 2.0. Preference given to full-time students, but part-time students will be considered. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books and other educational supplies, and testing fees.

Historyland Community Workshop Scholarships

Open to Adult Basic Education graduates from Lancaster County who will attend RCC full or part time (at least 6 credit hours). Requires a copy of GED scores; two recommendations (one from tutor or ABE teacher); and for returning students, a minimum GPA 2.5. Scholarship funds applicable to tuition, fees, books, and educational supplies.

Dr. Norman Howe Scholarship Fund

Open to deserving students enrolled at RCC. Funds are to be awarded according to RCC and RCC/EFI guidelines and academic standards. Recipient may use award for educational and living expenses.

Sally Bet Walker Lawson Fund

Leslie J. Lyons Memorial Scholarship

Open to a Middlesex County resident, on the basis of need, to be applied to tuition, fees, and books. Recipient must be an adult learner, age 25 or older, who is either employed by a small business or has an interest in establishing a small business in the future.

Open to students with a minimum GPA of 2.0 who reside in one of these counties: Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, and Westmoreland. Scholarship funds applicable to tuition, fees, books, and educational supplies.

Mathews Chapter Continentals Scholarship
$200 for Spring Semester only
Open to recent high school graduates residing in Mathews County. To be used during the spring semester, after earning a 2.5 GPA for the preceding fall semester at RCC. Scholarship funds applicable to tuition, fees, books, and educational supplies.

Grady N. McGhee Award
Amount varies
Open to a rising sophomore at RCC who has in his or her freshman year encountered major obstacles that would have discouraged most people. Applicants should be shown to have remained focused under stress, passing all of their classes at RCC while also surviving personal challenges. A recommendation from a faculty or staff member should accompany the application. Scholarship funds applicable to tuition, fees, and books.

Ed Merrell Engineering Scholarship

Open to a full-time, beginning or current pre-engineering student with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher from one of these counties: King and Queen, King William, Mathews, Middlesex, or New Kent. The recipient must also exhibit good citizenship qualities with preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need, leadership ability, and community involvement. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, and Engineering Societies expenses.

Middlesex American Legion Scholarship

Open to residents of Essex County with a minimum GPA of 2.0 who will attend RCC either full or part time. Consideration is given to need. Preference will be given to a student with a record of community/public service, or one who is enrolled or plans to enroll in a program of study related to public service. E. Peyton Motley Sr. Memorial Scholarship

Preference will be given to full-time students from Richmond County, with consideration for residents of all other Northern Neck counties, including Essex County. Preferred area of study is business. Funds may be used to cover educational and living expenses.

Northern Neck Association of Realtors Scholarship

Open to a graduating high school senior with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above who is a resident of one of the following counties: Essex, Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, or Westmoreland. Funds may be used to cover the cost of tuition, fees, and books.

Northern Neck Character Building Scholarship

Applicant must be a high school senior, graduating from a Northern Neck high school and residing in the college service region, who agrees to sign the pledge (contact Financial Aid Office for details) and make a commitment to strive toward the attributes named in the pledge. Applicant must provide a letter of recommendation that speaks to financial need and character. The scholarship will be used for the applicant's first year at RCC. Scholarship funds are applicable to tuition, fees, and books.

William F. and Catharine K. Owens Foundation Scholarship Fund

Open to a Mathews High School graduate showing evidence of need. Scholarship funds are applicable to tuition, fees, and books.

RCC/EFI County Scholarships
Amounts vary, up to $500
Applicants must either have graduated from high school, with a GPA of at least 2.0; must have earned a GED; or must qualify under the ability to benefit provision. Applicants must reside within the RCC service region, and must attend RCC at least half time (at least 6 credit hours). A letter of recommendation verifying need, leadership ability, and good citizenship is required. Funds are applicable to tuition, fees, and books.

RCC/EFI Scholarship of Merit (Treakle Foundation)

Open to graduating seniors of high schools located within the RCC service region. Students must be planning to attend RCC full-time (at least 12 credit hours), and must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Letters of recommendation are required from the applicant's high school principal and high school counselor, and a high school teacher. The scholarship award is based on academic achievement, with consideration given to leadership ability, good citizenship, and need. Recipient must maintain full-time status (12 or more credit hours) and a GPA of 2.5 or better during the fall semester to remain eligible for the award during the spring semester of that academic year. Scholarship funds are applicable to tuition, fees, and books.

RCC Gullwing Scholarship

Open to first- or second-year full-time students (12 or more credit hours). A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. Additional selection criteria include demonstrated leadership ability, good citizenship, and a history of community involvement.

RCC Support Staff Association Scholarship

Open to students graduating in the top 10 percent of their high school class who enroll in RCC's Associate of Arts and Sciences curriculum with the long-term goal of a bachelor’s degree in education. Recipient must reside in one of these counties: Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, or Westmoreland. Preference given to student with demonstrated need.

David Sisson Memorial Scholarship
$500 maximum
Open to residents of these counties: Essex, Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, and Westmoreland. Residents of other counties may be considered. Applicants must have graduated from high school with a minimum grade-point average of 2.0, and may attend RCC full or part time. Consideration is given to students with need. Scholarship funds applicable to tuition, fees, and books.

H. Marston Smith Memorial Scholarship
Amount varies, two-year award
Open to residents of RCC service region who are entering RCC as full-time (at least 12 credit hours) freshmen in the arts and science (transfer) degree program, and plan to complete a baccalaureate degree. When applicants are equally qualified, the determining factor will be need. One letter of recommendation required, speaking to applicant’s need, leadership ability, and good citizenship. Scholarship funds are applicable to tuition, fees, and books.

Student Support Services Scholarship
Amount varies; $100 minimum
Open to current Student Support Services (SSS) participants who have been in the program for at least one full semester. For consideration, the applicant must be enrolled in one of the following programs of study: Associate of Arts and Science or Associate of Applied Science. Applicants must currently be in good academic standing, with a grade-point average of at least 2.3. Consideration given to need and to active SSS participation. Scholarship funds are applicable to tuition, fees, books, educational supplies, and other college-related expenses.

Tappahannock Kiwanis Club Scholarship

Tappahannock Rotary Club Scholarship

Open to Essex County residents. If no qualified applicant meets the county of residence criteria, the scholarship committee is allowed to choose a recipient living outside of Essex County. Scholarship funds are applicable to tuition, fees, books, and educational supplies.

Tappahannock Rotary Club Vocational Scholarship

Open to Essex County residents enrolled in a vocational program of study to include Marine Trades, HVAC, or Industrial Electricity/Electronics. If no qualified applicant meets the county of residence criteria, the scholarship committee is allowed to choose a recipient living outside of Essex County. Atwood Barrett Tate, Sr. and Della Marie Tate Memorial Scholarship Endowment

This two-year scholarship is awarded every other year. Open to students from Essex County and the Northern Neck who will enroll in a full-time (at least 12 credit hours) two-year program. Tidewater Marine Trades Association Scholarship

Open to a student in the Marine Trades career studies certificate program or the Marine Trades ABYC certificate program at RCC, or to a high school student who is dually enrolled in the Marine Trades program. Preference is given to students with demonstrated need, leadership, good citizenship, and community involvement. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books. Recipient is asked to attend monthly TMTA meetings during academic year.

Lillian Marie Towles Scholarship

John H. Upton Leadership Scholarship
Amount varies (one half awarded at the beginning of the fall semester; the remainder at the beginning of the spring semester)
This scholarship recognizes academic achievement and leadership potential. Open to full-time degree-seeking transfer students who have completed at least 30 credits of course work at RCC with a cumulative GPA of 3.5. Applicants must show evidence of leadership potential and involvement in community or campus activities and submit letters of recommendations from former teachers and others who can attest to the student’s ability and potential. Upton Scholarship recipient must actively participate as a member of the President’s Planning and Advisory Committee at the college and attend student leadership development activities sponsored by RCC. Scholarship funds are applicable to tuition, fees, books, and educational supplies.

George Verlander Foundation Annual Scholarship

Open to residents of Lancaster County, with preference given to those from Weems. Recipients are required to have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 and maintain a 2.0 GPA at RCC while attending full or part time. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, educational supplies, and costs associated with the Nursing program.

George Verlander Foundation Scholarship Endowment

Open to residents of Lancaster County, with preference given to those from Weems. Recipients are required to have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 and maintain a 2.0 GPA at RCC while attending full or part time. Waste Management Scholarship

Open to Gloucester County residents who will study full or part time in a technical, business technology, or engineering technology program. Applicants must demonstrate leadership ability, good citizenship, and community involvement. Consideration given to need.

West Point Area Centennial Scholarship Fund

Open to students who will attend the Glenns Campus, and whose homes are in the town of West Point or its magisterial district; King William County and/or Weir Creek Magisterial District; New Kent County and/or Buena Vista District; or King and Queen County. Applicants may be former or current students of any public or private school. Scholarship funds applicable to tuition, fees, books, and educational supplies.

Nettie Lokey Wiley and Charles L. Wiley Foundation Scholarship

Preference given to a Northern Neck resident planning to complete a bachelor’s degree program in early childhood education, or a nursing student planning to pursue pediatric nursing. Open to entering, returning, or transferring students. Scholarship funds applicable to tuition, fees, books, and educational supplies.

The Woman’s Club of Northumberland County Scholarship Endowment
Amount varies; 1,500 maximum
Open to a mature woman, thirty years of age or older, with a high school diploma or GED, who meets RCC’s admission requirements or is already a student in good standing. Applicants must reside in one of these counties: Northumberland, Lancaster, Richmond or Westmoreland. Preference is given to Northumberland County residents. Applicants should be resuming their education after an interruption for family or financial reasons, and must show good citizenship qualities. Applicants must be enrolled as full-time (at least 12 credit hours) students in a degree program. This scholarship may be awarded to the same recipient for a second year if a “B” (2.0) average is achieved. Ffunds are applicable to tuition, fees, books, and other necessary college-related expenses.

The Woman’s Club of Northumberland County Scholarship

Open to a graduating senior of Northumberland High School who has been accepted by RCC as a full-time (at least 12 credit hours) student in a degree program. Proven need for financial assistance, good citizenship qualities, and a GPA of 2.5 or better are required. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, books, and fees.

Christopher L. Wyatt Memorial Scholarship

Open to an adult learner over 30 years of age, residing in King and Queen County or West Point, who is working toward any certificate or degree. Preference is given to students planning to pursue a career in surveying, or to an individual already working in this field. Scholarship funds may be used for educational and living expenses.

Charles S. Ylonen Memorial Rotary Scholarship in Nursing

This award is designed to cover all program expenses for a student in the ADN program. Student must reside in or have strong ties to Middlesex County, and must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Student may be in first or second year of the program. Preference will be given to a full-time student demonstrating financial need and good citizenship. Funds may be used to cover tuition, fees, books, uniforms, educational supplies and requirements, testing fees, graduation expenses and licensure.
